In Januarry, 2007, GHENSEED Management approached directors and convinced the cooperative to be a contract grower in corn seed production. Planting commenced in February 11, 2007 and resulted to a very encouraging yield. The 54 heactares trial area in Project 70 garnered a net income of P31, 000.00 per hectare. This prompted DARBCI Board of Directors to engaged seriously into corn seed production. The First Step that they did was to invite a noted and ex[perienced breeder, Dr. Amancio D. Manceras, who is an outstanding professor of the University of Southern Mindanao. Dr. manceras is an active member of AMNET (Asian Maize Network), an international corn association. He developed his own hybrid corn in white, yellow and glutinous. The Board of Directors created a corn committee and, to ensure the smooth start and success of the corn project, formed a subsidiary corporation which is now the Matutum Hybrid Corn & Trading Corporation ( MHCTC). It was registered last October 25, 2007 with the DARBCI Board of Directors consisting the 95% majority stockholders and 5% minority members who was varied expertise and qualifications. To effect a more efficient and propfessionalized management and operations the BOD decided to make MHCTC independent from DARBC. To secure the latter more earnings from their available land area, a lease agreement was executed guaranteeing a rental fee. DARBCI agreed to lease to MHCTC 70 heactares of Project 70 area for a period of fifteen ( 15 ) years from August 1, 2007 to August 1, 2022. THe said Land area shall be devoted exclusively for corn seeds production only.
